Orangutans are critically endangered, their lives increasingly shaped by the impact of human activity. This is something I return to in my work, not to illustrate a cause directly, but to keep the focus on the individual animal as someone in their own right.

My connection to painting orangutans began during a difficult time, when we found ourselves drawn to the world of rescued young orangutans being rehabilitated for release back into protected forest. Watching their progress brought a sense of calm and perspective, and that connection has stayed with me. I continue to regularly support orangutan conservation.

Twinkle centres on the face of a young orangutan, with the focus drawn into the eyes. The small, light-catching reflections give the piece its sense of life and individuality, and became the starting point for its name. The colour is intentionally vibrant, moving away from realism to emphasise expression and youthful personality.
