This piece was created from imagination rather than direct reference, centred on a moment of transition – the subtle shift of colour and form that octopuses move through so fluidly.
Set against a rich, warm blue background, the figure emerges through movement rather than detail. The flowing brushwork suggests water and motion without fixing the scene, allowing the focus to remain on the octopus itself – its changing colour, its reach, and its quiet sense of awareness.
For me, octopuses represent a different kind of intelligence – adaptive, responsive, and difficult to fully grasp. This painting sits within that space, not as a literal study, but as a reflection on transformation, sensitivity, and presence.
